Tip jar crook
A Newcastle man stole a donation bin from the Newcastle McDonald’s, 13049 Newcastle Way, on June 29. Earlier that morning, the same man stole the donation bin from a Maple Valley McDonald’s. He wasn’t done, though. The same man reportedly stole the tip jar at the Newcastle Starbucks, 6977 Coal Creek Parkway S.E., on June 30.
Up in smoke
An anonymous caller reported three suspicious males smoking something in a car near the intersection of Southeast 79th Drive and 144th Avenue Southeast June 30. The three men denied doing drugs and told police they were smoking cigarettes.
Running of the TVs
A Newcastle woman called police after she saw two suspicious males running northbound on 129th Place Southeast with a television July 2. Police conducted an area check, but didn’t find anything.
We, the people
A book about the Constitution, glasses and a vehicle registration was taken from a car parked in the 11400 block of Southeast 71st Place between July 3 and 4.
Smashed
An unknown suspect smashed the window of a Ford Explorer parked in the 13700 block of Southeast 78th Place between July 7 and 8. That and a scratch amounted to about $500 in damage.
Backward wanderer
Newcastle Police and the King County Mobile Crisis Team responded to multiple calls regarding a suspicious male with mental issues wandering around several parts of the city July 4-9.
The black male, who was often observed walking backward and looking up at the sky, was seen on Newcastle Golf Club Road, in The Reserve neighborhood and in Gleneagles Park on 154th Avenue Southeast at various times.
On July 7, residents reported seeing him defecate in Gleneagles Park. Later that day, police gave him a trespass warning letter for knocking on residents’ doors.
On July 9, police found him sitting on a porch in the 8000 block of 150th Place Southeast. The man appeared to be in pain, likely the effects of days without food and water, police said. Fearing for the man’s safety, police called an ambulance to escort him for a mental health evaluation.
During one of his conversations with police, the man said he was currently homeless and decided to stay in The Reserve neighborhood because it “made him feel safe.”
Taking tips
An unknown suspect stole the Newcastle Starbucks’ tip jar July 9. It was the second time in less than a dozen days that someone stole the jar from the company located at 6977 Coal Creek Parkway S.E.
Divided
Police responded to a property dispute after a neighbor called about “theft” of a property line in the 8000 block of 118th Court Southeast July 10. The neighbors argued about the fence line and its ownership between the homes, so when one neighbor paid to get the fence replaced, the other one felt that he was trying to become the fence line’s sole owner. Police told the reporting neighbor that it was a civil issue, not criminal.
Slashed
An unknown suspect slashed all four tires of a vehicle parked in the 7100 block of 119th Court Southeast between July 10 and 11.
Love triangle
Police say a man attempted to break up a fight, after two women he had sex with started a brawl in the intersection of Southeast 76th Place and 129th Avenue Southeast at about 2:40 a.m. July 12.
RIP Bambi
Police euthanized a deer after it was hit by a car on Coal Creek Parkway Southeast July 13.
Road rage
A woman told police that a Newcastle man threw something at her car in a road rage incident on Coal Creek Parkway Southeast July 13.
