NEW — 12:45 p.m. Feb. 14, 2015

The Newcastle City Council will hold its second meeting of the month Feb. 17.

There are only two items listed under the evening’s general business, but both are vital components to the city’s future.

First, the council will consider a development agreement with the Renton School District pertaining to construction of the new middle school.

The agreement proposes relief to the 30-feet height restriction in that particular zoning area. It would allow the district to construct the school building to a maximum of 45-feet, if approved.

The second item is a review of Newcastle 2035, the city’s Comprehensive Plan — a document that outlines the city’s vision and goals for the future.

The council will specifically look over the land use element and review methodology used by the Planning Commission to develop their recommended update.

Prior to the meeting, the council will hold a study session about the Open Public Meetings Act, Public Records Act and records retention training. That begins at 6 p.m.

Mayor Steve Buri is also expected to appoint Charlie Gadzik to a spot on the Planning Commission, and the council will hear a report from Waste Management.

All regular Newcastle City Council meetings begin at 7 p.m. and are held at City Hall, 12835 Newcastle Way, Suite 200.
